How To Study Biology In 1 Minute

Don't worry, this isn't going to be long and tedious. We are going to look at three key parts of studying and specifically studying Biology.

1. Spaced Repetition ๐Ÿ“…

Spaced repetition is key to remembering the vast amount of content. Biology is renowned for the amount of content that needs to be known. What this means is that study and revision needs to be efficient and effective. Furthermore you need to keep up with all content and regularly recap certain topics.

As shown by this graph, memory drop off can occur quickly and with no revisiting older content, information retention can drop to significantly low levels. However regular, even if shorter, study sessions can make sure you remember most of the content which will drastically help when exam season comes around. Upsetting the forgetting curve is free!

2. Active Recall ๐Ÿง

Active recall is proven to be the most effective and efficient way to study and importantly remember information. Testing yourself, whether revision cards or with friends and family can further improve connections in your brain to recall information.

Passively reading or even writing notes like a lot of you will do, is a relatively useless method as you are reading both the clue and the answer in unison rather than encouraging your brain to make the link. Having to recall information is more like an exam and so realistic.

3. Enjoyment โค๏ธ

Okay we appreciate this sounds a bit cheesy, what we mean is learning to enjoy the subject as well as looking forwards to learning is the best way in which to improve your grades. Even if it takes time, learning to enjoy Biology as a whole whether through Instagram, podcasts, newsletters, websites or YouTube pages, will mean you are more likely to pick up little bits of information here and there as well as want to study and work on your knowledge!
